In this Zojirushi coffee maker review we’ll look specifically at the Zojirushi EC-BD15BA which is a thermal carafe coffee maker. With over 300 5 star reviews on Amazon as I write this, it is one of the better choices you can make when it comes to a thermal coffee maker. It is considered a 10 cup coffee maker and brews 1.5 liters of coffee in its thermal carafe.
That’s about enough for a good start in the morning for me 🙂 It’s also considered 10 cups of 5 ounces of coffee. A demitasse or a doppio espresso really. But hey, that’s been my ongoing gripe about coffee maker manufacturers. I mean really, who drinks a 5 ounce cup of coffee. Not even my grandmother. At least 8 ounces, that’s a cup isn’t it? Regardless, a 10 cup thermal carafe coffee maker is one of the biggest you can get out there. And this is Japanese and reliable. Just like your Honda.
The styling of this Zojirushi thermal carafe is Japanese elegance at its finest. Just like Japanese design generally, the Zojirushi coffee machine drip brewer is refined but not gaudy. It offers user functionality without excess. Very much like German design and engineering. This is one of the more elegant coffee makers out there.
Here are just some of the great features of the Zojirushi EC BD15BA thermal coffee drip brewer:
- Aesthetically pleasing automatic 10 cup coffee maker
- The thermal carafe is stainless steel to keep coffee hot for hours
- Electronic clock and timer with preset function and automatic shut off
- Ingenius brew and serve lid as well as easily readable water gauge
- Solid 1 year warranty with a small footprint 15″ x 12″ x 9″
There is nothing worse in my mind than burnt coffee. And unfortunately with most coffee makers nowadays, if you leave the glass coffee carafe on the hot plate for more than a half hour, the coffee is likely to end up tasting burnt. Just like restaurants use thermal carafes to keep their coffee hot and also fresh, so does the Zojirushi thermal coffee maker keep your coffee hot for hours but fresh for just as long too. This is one of the main reasons I’m moving towards thermal carafe coffee makers.

More, it’s one of the very few home models I know that can brew 8 cups of just-roasted coffee at a proper 2 tablespoons per cup ratio without fuss, and – this is important! – maintain proper brewing temperatures throughout the entire brew cycle… it also insulates the brew basket. – Doug C.
