DeLonghi EC702
Welcome to the best DeLonghi EC702 review, at least according to my biased opinion 😉 Today we’ll spend a bit of time looking at the DeLonghi EC702 espresso machine which is one of several manual pump driven espresso makers that DeLonghi makes for the consumer market. It is important that you understand the difference between a steam driven espresso maker and a pump driven espresso maker. A pump espresso machine drives the hot water under pressure via a pump through the ground espresso beans in the portafilter. A steam espresso machine uses the pressure built up by the steam to force the water through the espresso beans.
The DeLonghi EC702 15 bar pump espresso maker being pump driven is able to push water under greater pressure than a steam driven espresso maker can. And this is important for full coffee flavor extraction. So I always prefer to buy a pump driven manual espresso machine over  steam espresso machine, and I generally look for the pressure to be at least 12 bars. So the EC702 meets these criteria quite easily.
One of the benefits of the DeLonghi EC702 espresso maker is the the dual patented portafilter. The portafilter is what holds the ground espresso beans or espresso pods. And the DeLonghi dual portafilter allows you to use your own ground espresso beans or to use ESE coffee pods which is a very nice touch. I usually prefer using my own ground espresso, but the convenience of having an espresso pod handy when guests come over is certainly valuable.
Here are just some of the many features of the DeLonghi EC702:
- Stainless steel boiler offers 15 bars of pressure for full flavor extraction
- Dual purpose portafilter can brew espresso with ground beans or espresso pods
- Adjustable frother for easy access, self priming and 2 thermostats for steam and water
- Handy cup warmer and large 44 ounce water tank for endless espresso
- Easy to clean stainless steel accents and removable drip tray
The DeLonghi espresso machines offer many of the features you’ve come to expect but in quality and robust packages. This DeLonghi EC702 is no different, covered by a 1 year warranty, it is likely you’ll get many years of enjoyment out of it. The 2 individually dedicated thermostats might seem like a small feature but they are actually extremely useful in providing quick and accurate temperature for steam (frothing milk) and espresso (extracting the coffee). This allows for consistent and reliable espresso flavor every time.

I have been making espresso at home for 30 years and have gone through 3 machines prior to purchasing the DeLonghi. When it was time to purchase another espresso maker, I chose the DeLonghi EC702. It heats up really quickly… All in all, a GREAT machine at a GREAT price. – T. Pajak
