Nespresso CitiZ Review

Nespresso CitiZ

Welcome to the Nespresso CitiZ review. The CitiZ espresso machine that you see to the left is the Nespresso CitiZ with Milk Limousine. That’s a cute name for the automatic milk frother. The Nespresso CitiZ also known as the Nespresso D120 is an automatic espresso maker that pours one shot of coffee or espresso at a time from the proprietary Nespresso coffee capsules.

The Nespresso CitiZ is more expensive than either the Senseo coffee maker or the Keurig coffee maker, in fact it’s about twice the price. So the Nespresso CitiZ & Milk Limousine is not cheap. However, when you compare it to super automatic espresso machines it seems very cheap. But can you compare it to a super automatic espresso maker? I’d say no. The Nespresso limits you to the coffee and the espresso coffee beans you can use. In fact you can’t use espresso beans or regular coffee beans. In this way it is more similar to the Senseo pod coffee maker or the Keurig single serve coffee maker.

I’m going to say right off the bat that I don’t recommend the Nespresso CitiZ if you’re looking for an espresso machine. If you’re looking for a single serve coffee maker then the Nespresso espresso makers are a valid option amongst the Keurig and Senseo coffee machines. But lots of folks are madly in love with the Nespresso CitiZ espresso maker so I wanted to do a review of it. So let me explain my bias. As I write this, you are limited to around 12 varieties of coffee capsules and you have to buy them from Nespresso or a limited number of authorized dealers.

I just don’t like being that controlled and dictated to by a company. So if it was me I’d buy either a Keurig or Senseo coffee maker and a manual espresso machine. But if you drink primarily espresso based beverages and hardly ever have need for coffee or exploring other espresso beans, then the Nespresso CitiZ might be right up your alley. You’ll have to make that decision. In the meantime let’s talk about some of the features and benefits of this single serve automatic espresso machine to see if it is right for you.

Here are some of the features of the Nespresso CitiZ cappuccino machine:

  • Easy to use single serve fresh espresso maker made from proprietary coffee capsules
  • Integrated Aeroccino allows you to heat and froth milk with the push of a button
  • Esrpresso and Lungo buttons so you can have long shots or Americanos too
  • Removable drip tray for easy cleaning and folding cup support for smaller cups
  • Robust 19 bar espresso pump for excellent flavor extraction

As you can see, the Nespresso CitiZ D120 extracts an excellent amount of flavor from the coffee capsules with its powerful 19 bar pump and this is what makes up a lot of the price. It delivers great espresso crema and the coffee capsules have been selected well to provide varying and deep flavor profiles of different coffees and espresso beans. If you know what you’re getting into and that is, being dictated by where and how many kinds of coffee capsules you can buy, and if you are happy with a limited number of coffee beans to explore (though the ones offered are excellent), and you mostly drink espresso and espresso based beverages then I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the Nespresso CitiZ.

Here is what one happy customer had to say about their Nespresso CitiZ:

Review has been shortened – You can read the full review here

It is well-designed, easy to use and easy to understand. It makes a FANTASTIC cup of espresso, and for milk coffee drink lovers, it makes FANTASTIC cappucinos, etc. The very first drink I put together using the machine was hands-down, no question, superior to the [ubiquitous coffee chain] that I buy two of every day at work. I have to say the milk frother deserves praise on its own. I’m very happy with my Citiz + Milk. – A. Todd
