I’ve had a bunch of people ask me about performing DeLonghi Magnifica cleaning and maintenance. So I figured I would do a short article on how to clean Magnifica. The cleaning and maintenance of your DeLonghi Magnifica espresso machine is crucial to enjoying your cappuccino machine for as long as is possible. This is the same for any mechanical or electrical device, and it’s common sense too. If you’re just browsing and thinking of buying a DeLonghi coffee machine or the DeLonghi Magnifica specifically please take a browse of my blog and you’ll find several posts that I’ve done on the DeLonghi coffee maker in its various permutations. But for now, let’s get to DeLonghi Magnifica cleaning which is really what this post is about.
The DeLonghi Magnifica is one of the premier DeLonghi coffee makers out there on the market. It is one of the semi automatic espresso machines which can become a fully automatic espresso machine with an upgrade. So let’s start investigating what needs to be cleaned on this DeLonghi espresso machine.
First order of DeLonghi Magnifica cleaning business
The firs job to be performed in DeLonghi Magnifica cleaning is to ensure that the milk frothers are always clean and hygienic. So after each cappuccino or other milk based beverage you’ll want to clean the channels inside the milk container lid. This is done by placing a clean cup under the milk spout and pressing the “Clean” button and holding it down for about 8 seconds. This shouldn’t take too long and once it has been cleaned replace the milk container in the fridge.
So that’s some DeLonghi Magnifica cleaning and maintenance that can and should be done often. Some other cleaning tasks you can perform with this DeLonghi espresso coffee machine is to clean the grounds container. Be foreworned however that the DeLonghi Magnifica espresso machine should be cool and unplugged. So it is best to clean it after it has cooled down for a while. Also remember that the coffee grind container, water tank and drip tray are NOT dishwasher safe and so should be cleaned by hand with mild soapy water. The drip tray has a level indicator and should be cleaned when the indicator (red) starts to become visible.
Addtional DeLonghi Magnifica cleaning tasks
Some other DeLonghi Magnifica cleaning and maintenance tasks are to ensure that the coffee spout is not clogged. This can be cleaned or scraped out with a needle or pin. You’ll also want to clean the nozzle periodically too. DeLonghi coffee machines with infusers should be cleaned regularly so that encrustations of coffee do not block the machine or cause it to malfunction. The coffee infuser should be cleaned with running water and a damp cloth but without detergents. While you have the infuser out, it is a good idea to clean the inside of the machine with a damp cloth too.
Next we want to perform DeLonghi Magnifica cleaning of the milk container which is also important for hygiene and sanitation. The milk spouts and milk intake tubes should be removed before cleaning the milk container separately. The milk container can be cleaned in hot soap water or the dishwasher.
Of course it should go without saying that DeLonghi Magnifica cleaning should always include wiping down the outside of the DeLonghi espresso maker with a damp cloth. One other thing that you will notice is that the machine will give you a “Descale” message once in a while. This is one of the most overlooked DeLonghi Magnifica cleaning tasks that can cause your machine to malfunction. DeLonghi recommends using one bottle of DURGOL (125 ml or 4 oz) to 34 oz (1 liter) of water. However, I have found that using the same amount of white vinegar to work just as effectively.
