Oxidation is a chemical process which when it happens inside the body can produce free radicals which can start a chain reaction in the cell leading to the death of that cell. There are materials that can inhibit these chain reactions within the cell and these are called antioxidants. Antioxidants work by removing substances that are necessary for the oxidation process and make sure that it does not go through. We always hear about antioxidants and products that are filled with it but we may be lacking in some information regarding these materials that can be very useful to us.
Actually oxidation is a necessary process for animals and plants but when it becomes excessive it can prove to be very harmful. This is the reason why the body has several antioxidants in it. These include vitamins C and E and the substance glutathione. When there is a lack of these antioxidants in the body or when they are inhibited cells can die because of oxidative stress. It has been discovered that this kind of stress which results from the lack of antioxidants in the body happens during most illnesses which ends up with the body becoming unhealthy. This is the reason why antioxidants and their possible benefits are extensively researched in the pharmaceutical industry today.
These days there are all kinds of products that are being offered with antioxidants in them. Most of them have some form of antioxidants that are aimed at preventing the rapid oxidation within the body, but the best source of antioxidants are the foods and the drinks that are available to us on an everyday basis.
Coffee vs. Green Tea Antioxidants- It has been claimed that coffee is one of the richest source of antioxidant, but the same thing is being said for green tea as well. So which one is really a better drink when it comes to providing a good antioxidant effect on the body?
The effect of coffee on the body is kind of complicated. While it has been hailed as a very beneficial drink it has also been claimed by some research that it has some negative effects. In regards with oxidation coffee contains a lot of antioxidants that helps prevent aging in our bodies, aside from that, research is also pointing to some evidence that coffee can lead to a lowering of risk of cognitive problems.
Unlike coffee there has been no question regarding the effectiveness of tea or of its health benefits. For the centuries that it has been used as a drink in many parts of the world, it has been believed correctly that tea can bring in a lot of health benefits to the body. Evidence points out to the fact that drinking tea might help prevent the development of cancer and other major diseases.
The debate would go on as to which drink is actually better but research has proven that coffee contains more antioxidants than tea. Since both drinks are beneficial, your decision for which drink to use should depend totally on your own preference.
