Breville Barista Express
Let’s take a look at the Breville Barista Express a semi automatic espresso machine from down under. In this Breville Barista Express review I want to take a look at the features and benefits of the Breville Barista Express BES860XL but also try and give you an idea of who this espresso machine is for. Who might benefit from this Australian heavyweight. As an aside, Breville has been around for over 80 years and were founded in Sydney Australia. And something else many of you might not know, is that Australia has quite a storied and steeped coffee culture. Who woulda thunk it 😉
But I digress. The Breville BES860XL is a semi automatic espresso machine and quite a unique offering. Most semi automatic espresso machines don’t offer a conical burr grinder built in to the espresso maker. One of my older espresso machines for example has no grinder at all so I have to pre-grind my espresso coffee beans. With the BES860XL the built in grinder makes this extremely easy and less messy too.
If you’re looking for a very decent cappuccino maker that offers the best of a fully automatic espresso machine but with the finesse and art of a manual espresso machine I think this Breville BES 860Xl would be a terrific espresso machine to consider. And this espresso machine will grow with you. Whether you’re just starting out it offers programmable settings for consistent quality of your espresso shots, it also offers a “beginner” filter for the portafilter. But if you’re experienced you can use the “standard” filter and manually set the Breville Barista Express to pull your own shots just how you like.
Here are some of the great features of the Breville Barista Express espresso machine:
- Italian designed Thermoblock pump for quick heat and reliable 15 bar pressure
- Sealed and built in 8 ounce hopper for fresh just ground espresso shots
- Integrated conical burr grinder ensures even grinding and no heat transfer to the beans
- Large 67 ounce removable water reservoir includes water filtration system
- Grows with your experience from beginner to barista extraordinaire
The portafilter on this Breville espresso machine ensures that the puck is as dry as possible thanks to an on board valve that extracts all water from the espresso puck so removing it from the coffee filter is easy and clean. The puck comes out like a little brownie. The Breville Barista Express is one of the first if not the only semi automatic espresso machine to pull a shot in under 1 minute. Included is a removable magnetized espresso tamper for ease of tamping as well as personalizing your tamp pressure.

Review paraphrased for space – Full review can be found here
This is as automatic as you will want to go if you want to really control your coffee. This is one finely engineered machine. From a mechanically inclined electrical engineer to the folks at Breville: you have created an exceptionally functional piece that does the job. Did I mention it is beautiful on the counter as well? In my opinion this is the best buy in the market – Wolfenhawke
