Breville 800ESXL – A Short In Depth Review

Breville 800ESXL

Today we’ll take a short but thorough review of the Breville 800ESXL. This is a manual espresso machine, although I’ll sometimes call them semi automatic espresso machines even though semi automatic espresso machines are the ones that will grind the espresso coffee beans, tamp them and pour the shot for you. To me that sounds like an automatic espresso machine. Nevertheless, I’m digressing. This Breville 800ESXL review will take a look at it’s many features and capabilities and we’ll offer suggestions as to who might best benefit from owning the Breville 800ESXL espresso machine.

Breville surprisingly is not an Italian espresso machine manufacturer. In fact they are Aussie and they’re quite well known for their grilled sandwich makers. But please don’t let this color your thinking about the Breville espresso 800ESXL. This is a great cappuccino maker if you like to tweak your own shots and prefer a hands on espresso experience. It can also grow with you if you are a beginner just starting out. The Breville die cast espresso machine is more durable than stainless stell as die cast steel is forged at higher temperatures.

The Breville portafilter comes with an insert for single shots. So you can choose one shot of espresso, two shots of espresso or you can even use espresso pods for a complete no mess no fuss solution. The Breville 800ESXL espresso machine comes with a coffee scoop and espresso tamper. It is an all in one tool made from plastic so I would suggest that you pick yourself up a robust steel espresso tamper and stainless steel coffee spoon too.

Here are some of the features of the Breville 800ESXL:

  • Thermoblock heating system with 15 bars pressure from Italian made pump
  • Die cast stainless steel housing with dial for espresso, steam or plain hot water
  • Large 50 shot capacity water reservoir and swivelling milk wand
  • This espresso machine includes stainless steel pitcher, cleaning tool, filters and tamper/measuring spoon
  • Small footprint of approx. 12 inches x 12 inches x 10 inches and Breville’s one year warranty

The warming tray is handy to keep your espresso cups and saucers or glass coffee cups warm before you pour the shots. The height underneath is decent so you can fit your favorite large coffee mug under it and pour the shots directly into it rather than espresso shot glasses. The Breville 800ESXL is a great beginner to intermediate machine. But if you can spare a hundred or two hundred extra dollars I think you’ll be happier with the Rancilio Silvia espresso machine. It’ll extract a better espresso and it will also meet pro standards as you become a more accomplished barista. Nevertheless, that is my opinion only. Review shortened for space – You can read the full review here

It’s almost like love at first sight. Beautifully crafted, built like a tank solid, and most importantly…. perfect Espresso every time. I am proud to say this is THE machine that produced a lot of CREMA. It’s easy to make a perfect cup every time without leaks and no messes. Nothing is as important as a good cup of Espresso with CREMA! Looks great in my new kitchen as well. – Jackson H.
